Lairen Mathek

Lairen Mathek is the Manipuri word for the spine of the python, which is a very strong symbol in the language of Manipur but also in the martial arts thang tha that comes from Manipur. Lairen Mathe was created during Atelier Mondial scholarship in 2018 in India in collaboration with the choreographer Surjit Nongmeikapam. It is a research on the spine and on eternal movements such as the figure eight. The stick is being inspired by several martial arts from north east india as a connecting element. Lairen Mathek is a dance performance and has two parts: A Dance film and performance on a actual stage. ​
